Talks and Workshops

All of our workshops and talks are fully illustrated with Powerpoint Presentations, music and video where appropriate. We also bring physical visual aids, such as example waymarks of the type used on the routes, our packs, guidebooks, trekking food etc to give a real sense of the Pilgrim experience. Our talks generally last between an hour and an hour and a half, but they can be extended or combined together.

Spiritual Pilgrimage for the 21st Century

A talk which explores the modern phenomena of pilgrimage in the West. It explores the options available for pilgrimage, what to expect and how to cope with the return to 'normal' life. Whilst drawing on our experiences on Olav's Way and the Camino Frances we also discuss general concepts of Sacred Place and Time, how any journey can be made sacred, and how undertaking such a journey connects the traveller to ancient archetypes of the Holy Wanderer, both Christian and from other faiths. A talk suitable for all types of group interested in pilgrimage, modern spirituality or long distance walking.

St Olav's Way (practical)

A talk focussing on the practical aspects of walking St Olav's Way in Norway, from Oslo to Trondheim, touching on the historical and cultural aspects of the route, and our experiences. A talk most suitable for groups with members who may be thinking of walking this route, or who have a general interest in long distance walking.

St Olav's Way (narrative)

A talk focussing on the history and cultural aspects of St Olav's Way, drawing heavily on our experience of walking the way in 2006. A talk suitable for groups who would like to find out more about this route, or who have a general interest in pilgrimage.

The Way of St James (practical)

A talk focussing on the practical aspects of walking the Camino Frances route to Santiago de Compostela, touching on the historical and cultural aspects of the route and our experiences. Also introduces the other routes to Santiago, and the route extension to Finisterre. A talk most suitable for groups with members who may be thinking of walking this route, or who have a general interest in long distance walking.

The Way of Saint James (narrative)

A talk focussing on the history and cultural aspects of the Camino to Santiago, drawing heavily on our experience of walking the way in 2005. A talk suitable for groups who would like to find out more about this route, or who have a general interest in pilgrimage.

Pilgrim Workshops for Schools

Kate is a qualified music teacher, and together with Corwen can use live music, costume, props, games and especially tailored Powerpoint Presentations to bring the theme of Pilgrimage to life for your students. This talk can be from the historical perspective of The Medieval Pilgrim, or from the perspective of Pilgrims Today, and thus be a useful adjunct to History or RE projects. The fee for this workshop includes high quality preparatory and follow up worksheets.

Fees and expenses charged for these talks by arrangement. Contact us to discuss your needs.
